Studio Stockholm was commissioned by the property owner Vectura to strategically transform Arsenalsgatan 8, a landmark building in central Stockholm that houses some of Sweden’s most influential institutions and companies. The project, initiated in 2019, began with the redesign of part of the property but quickly expanded into a full-scale transformation of the entire building – including the addition of a new floor. With a clear focus on security, accessibility, flexibility, and heritage, Studio Stockholm developed a holistic concept that respects the building’s origins from the early 1900s while upgrading it to meet the demands of the coming century. A central theme was Swedish innovation, embodied by sourcing and curating exclusively from Swedish producers and craftsmen. The result is a unifying workplace with spaces that encourage collaboration, safeguard confidentiality, and support innovation.
Challenge
• Outdated facilities that were lacking coherent structure and secure access.
• Complex stakeholder landscape with multiple organizations sharing the building.
• Balancing high security, accessibility, and sustainability in a historically listed building.
Process
• A clear strategy and vision was defined at a very early stage that anchored in collaboration, sustainability, health and wellbeing.
• Senior stakeholders were continuously kept onboard and guided through key decisions with design integrity safeguarded by a consistent focus on overarching goals and strategy.
• Architecture, interior, and product design were all coordinated into one cohesive whole.
Result
• LEED Platinum certified building with a long-term, future-proof perspective.
• Coherent structure with flexible layouts, improved daylight, and efficient circulation.
• Shared spaces and amenities that not only encourage collaboration and well-being but also strengthen the cohesion and visibility of the organizations within the property.
