For the first time, Studio Stockholm turned its design methodology inward to shape a new home for the practice itself. After nearly a decade in a temporary showroom space, the studio set out to design an office that reflected both its culture and its ambitions. The project followed the same rigorous process used for clients: strategy, analysis, programming, and design. The result is a workplace that balances function, form, and culture, while balancing discretion with character, creating an environment that highlights client projects and at the same time expresses Studio Stockholm’s identity.
Challenge
● Transitioning from a generic showroom to a space fully tailored to the studio’s brand and way of working.
● Creating generous spatial qualities despite structural constraints such as low ceiling heights and exposed installations.
● Managing the unusual role of being both architect and client, with formal internal requirement-setting.
Process
● Applied Studio Stockholm’s full design methodology, including strategic workshops and employee participation to define needs.
● Developed a design concept of a subtle yet characterful canvas, with a refined material palette and carefully selected color accents.
● Designed bespoke furniture, custom lighting solutions, and dedicated spaces for material library, prototyping, and exhibitions.
Result
● A 100% tailor-made office that supports Studio Stockholm’s creative process and internal culture.
● A platform for collaboration and knowledge-sharing, with generous social areas that strengthen community and employer branding.
● A discreet but distinctive environment, enabling client presentations to take center stage while expressing the identity of Studio Stockholm.
