Studio Stockholm has accompanied Länsförsäkring Kronoberg on a ten-year journey to transform their head office in Växjö and a series of local branches. The ambition was clear: to modernize outdated environments, strengthen the brand, and attract new generations of employees and customers while maintaining its core customers. The project is remarkable not only for its scope and duration but also because it required approval at the highest political level. A government decision was necessary before the new headquarters could be realized.

Challenge
• Redeveloping a dated 1980s building in a sensitive historic context next to Växjö Cathedral.
• Navigating an unusually complex approval process that ultimately required a ruling at government level.
• Designing for both confidentiality in banking and insurance services and openness towards the public.
Process
• Applied a full design methodology over ten years, from early strategy to completion, with close involvement of both employees and leadership.
• Redevelopment of the existing building with an added 650 sqm extension that became the new heart of the building, reshaping circulation and creating communal areas.
• Emphasized sustainability and local identity through authentic materials, recycled solutions, and collaborations with regional artisans and artists.
Result
• A modern and flexible headquarters that supports growth and new ways of working.
• A welcoming customer area that serves as a natural meeting place in the local community, reinforcing accessibility and trust.
• A strong, locally rooted identity that employees and leadership embrace with pride.
