ArkDes event “The City as a Resource – Preservation, Reuse, and Renewal”
We are incredibly proud to take part in the fully booked ArkDes event “The City as a Resource – Preservation, Reuse, and Renewal”. The event takes place on September 11! Studio Stockholm Arkitektur’s Karolina Nyström together with Ann Reimers from Natur & Kultur will present the transformation of the ROT Award–nominated redevelopment of Skogsindustrihuset, owned and occupied by Natur & Kultur (September 9 will the winner be announce).
The City as a Resource – Preservation, Reuse, and Renewal Stockholm is often described as meeting many of the key criteria for a sustainable city: dense urban structure, abundant greenery, shared public spaces, and efficient public transport. Yet, in recent years, rapid development has also brought demolitions, exploitation, social segregation, and increased traffic.
Today, numerous projects aim to reverse this trend, with growing awareness of sustainable alternatives such as reuse, electrification, shared mobility, environmentally friendly building materials, and safe urban spaces. The pendulum is swinging – but it needs to swing faster. Closely linked to sustainability is the concept of heritage conservation. This year marks the 50th anniversary of the 1975 “Year of Building Conservation” in Sweden. What led to this milestone, what lessons can be drawn for today’s society, and how do we approach heritage conservation now?
The event is a collaboration between Samfundet S:t Erik, ArkDes and ArkDes Vänner.
